Congratulations to AMIS Doctoral Student, Runye Lu, for Winning the First Place in ASME Best Student Paper Award

In Nov. 2021, the International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE) was held online by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). AMIS PhD student, Runye Lu, attended the meeting and delivered an oral presentation on his recent research progress about the health monitoring of high-damping viscoelastic materials. This work pushed the barrier of electro-mechanical impedance spectroscopy (EMIS) method for high-damping viscoelastic material applications. Runye utilized artificial resonance peaks derived from sub-resonators to address the great challenge of large energy attenuation at high frequencies. His method considerably improved the sensitivity of EMIS for the health monitoring of high-damping viscoelastic materials. The Best Student Paper Award competition was organized by ASME Noise Control and Acoustics Division (NCAD). The competition result was based on the evaluation from the NCAD Expert Committee. Finally, Runye’s paper stood out in the fierce competition and won the First Place of the Best Student Paper Award.
