AMIS receives support from National Natural Science Foundation of China
AMIS's research on "Enhancing Guided Wave Structural Health Monitoring Capability via Active Meta-surfaces" was supported by the general program of National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2019.
Project introduction:
In order to address the challenges for guided wave based Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) techniques, this project strives to enhance the guided wave SHM capability by combining the adaptive wave control prowess of active meta-surfaces with the key procedures of guided wave SHM. Setting out from the active control mechanism of the meta-surface unit, methodologies utilizing smart materials, micro pneumatic structures, and fluid-level structures will be investigated to achieve the structural dynamic characteristic tuning of the meta-surface units. Programmable and adaptive wave manipulation can be achieved utilizing these active unit cells for meta-surface construction. Research endeavors will be exerted on the development of theory and methodology for realizing the wave field mode switching, frequency component selection, wave guiding, energy focusing, beamforming, scanning, and damage information excavation using the meta-surface. This project will reveal the mechanism of improving the guided wave damage detection capability from the physical perspectives and via the key SHM procedures.
